Stone sculptor Mark Whyte, of Christchurch company Goldfield Stone Ltd, examines the stone and mosaic reredos at Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary.

We have worked with Goldfied Stone on a number of restoration projects and on heritage-listed buildings, particularly following the Christchurch Earthquakes. They have undertaken some very challenging repairs and reinstatements and we have been impressed with the quality of the completed works. Limestone mouldings where re-carved and repaired with spliced in profiles and the brick work re-pointed with red oxide mortar restoring the façade to its original grandeur richly expressing its materials. The restored theatre façade is more than ever a significant part of the city scape and the theatre is again a pre-eminent cultural centre in the city.
