The Rose Chapel

Critically damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 to 2012, the Chapel has been reinstated with significant strengthening interwoven with the existing fabric. It could well be a precedent setter for the sympathetic reinstatement of a significant landmark in the Christchurch rebuild. The Rose window is inspirational, but so too is the passionate commitment of architect and contractor to rebuild this important piece of Christchurch heritage – for evidence of this, one need only listen to the contractor speak, with real passion, about reforming the internal arches by hand and re-laying the mind-bending tile floor. This was a real pleasure to hear and to see.
