Princess ANNE at Citizens’ War Memorial
Hundreds gathered to watch Her Royal Highness Princess Anne rededicate the Citizens’ War Memorial in Christchurch. The ceremony included a prayer, a blessing of the memorial, the unveiling of a plaque and the laying of a wreath by Princess Anne.
Jeremy Higgins, Quantity Surveyor, has been involved in the project since late 2021 and has enjoyed witnessing the reconstruction of the Citizens’ War Memorial. “It was an honour to be invited to the rededication of the war memorial with HRH Princess Anne, Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Mayor, senior members of the Anglican church in Christchurch and representative of the Navy and Army as well as other members of the reconstruction team,” he says.
Due to the unknowns of reusing heritage stone, the project has been done under a cost-reimbursable contract and the most critical task we have undertaken is forecasting the estimated cost for the works and ensuring all claims are appropriately supported with backup information.
Jeremy congratulates the project team who worked to restore this culturally significant monument. “The team of Christchurch City Council, Ruamoko, Heritage Management Services, Citycare, Goldfields and BCP have been a pleasure to work with and I look forward to finishing the project off in time for the ANZAC day services.”
